About UK Pay Calculator

UK Pay Calculator is a free, independent website built to answer a straightforward question: how much of your pay are you likely to take home?

The site is designed to be useful without requiring an account or asking users to work through a complicated payroll form. The main calculator starts with the common case and keeps pensions, student loans and other relevant details in optional extra settings.

What the calculator covers

The current calculator uses 2026/27 rules for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. It estimates Income Tax, employee National Insurance, supported workplace-pension arrangements and student-loan repayments.

The salary example pages use the same calculation engine as the main calculator, so the figures are not maintained separately.

How accuracy is maintained

Tax and payroll figures are kept in a central tax-year configuration rather than repeated throughout the site. Automated regression tests cover major thresholds and supported deduction methods, and those tests run before each production build.

Official government sources and the assumptions behind the calculation are listed on the Methodology & Sources page.

What UK Pay Calculator is not

UK Pay Calculator is not an HMRC service, payroll provider, accountant or financial adviser. Results are estimates for general information and may differ from an actual payslip because of tax codes, payroll periods, bonuses, benefits and individual circumstances.

Funding the site

The site may contain clearly labelled sponsored links to relevant services. At present, Klamic is promoted to visitors who may also freelance or work for themselves. Sponsored links are kept separate from the calculation and do not affect the figures shown.
